Cisco: IoT to generate $8 trillion worldwide in 10 years – Computer Business Review.

Add this to the Trillions made on personal analytics over the same time and the Quaudrillions made over expanded capitalism and also the ginormous amounts of wealth created via cannabis legalisation globally – The ‘poor’ might just be able to finally pay their way and fulfill their dreams without having to ask for money from someone else first… fingers crossed

SpeechTechMag.com: MotionSavvy’s UNI Converts Sign Language to Audio

SpeechTechMag.com: MotionSavvy’s UNI Converts Sign Language to Audio.

For most hearing impaired people, the inability to properly and precisely communicate with the hearing often leads to frustration, anger, and isolation. Unless a hearing person knows sign language, which is unlikely, the deaf are forced to communicate by pen and paper using a sort of pigeon English.

However, with the advancement of speech and other technologies, several solutions aiming to lower the communication barrier are hitting the market. Considering that there are roughly 250 million deaf people in the world, according to the World Health Organization, this is indeed welcome news.

MotionSavvy, a startup from Alameda, Calif., has just taken the wraps off UNI, an assistive device that features a tablet, smart case, and mobile app. Using gesture and speech recognition, sign language is converted to audio, and spoken word is translated to text in real time without needing a Web connection.

“Every aspect of interaction with a hearing person is difficult, to the point that we feel hopeless,” said Ryan Hait-Campbell, CEO and co-founder of MotionSavvy, in an email. “We feel so hopeless that there is nothing that can be done. We are trying to give deaf people the ability to live the life that they want without any limits.”

FBI Announces Full Operational Capability of the Next Generation Identification System

Clarksburg, WVSeptember 15, 2014
  • Criminal Justice Information Services Division(304) 625-5820

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division announced today the achievement of full operational capability of the Next Generation Identification (NGI) System. The FBI’s NGI System was developed to expand the Bureau’s biometric identification capabilities, ultimately replacing the FBI’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) in addition to adding new services and capabilities.

As part of NGI’s full operational capability, the NGI team is introducing two new services: Rap Back and the Interstate Photo System (IPS). Rap Back is a functionality that enables authorized entities the ability to receive ongoing status notifications of any criminal history reported on individuals holding positions of trust, such as school teachers. Law enforcement agencies, probation and parole offices, and other criminal justice entities will also greatly improve their effectiveness by being advised of subsequent criminal activity of persons under investigation or supervision. The IPS facial recognition service will provide the nation’s law enforcement community with an investigative tool that provides an image-searching capability of photographs associated with criminal identities. This effort is a significant step forward for the criminal justice community in utilizing biometrics as an investigative enabler.

This latest phase of NGI is only one portion of the FBI’s NGI System. Since phase one was deployed in February 2011, the NGI system has introduced enhanced automated fingerprint and latent search capabilities, mobile fingerprint identification, and electronic image storage, all while adding enhanced processing speed and automation for electronic exchange of fingerprints to more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies and other authorized criminal justice partners 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The CJIS Division serves as the focal point and central repository for criminal justice information services within the FBI. Formed in February 1992, CJIS is the largest division within the FBI and is responsible for the management of six major programs: Biometric Identification Services, the National Crime Information Center, the Uniform Crime Reporting Program, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, the Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal, and the National Data Exchange.

Google denies breach after hackers leak millions of user logins

Google has denied that its computer systems were breached and downplayed the threat after hackers claimed to have leaked 4.9 million Gmail logins.

Hackers posted what they claimed were the email addresses, usernames and passwords of nearly five million Gmail customers, exposing them to identity theft.

The data was first posted on a Bitcoin security forum called btcsec.com by a hacker using the name of “tvskit”, who claimed that 60% of the entries were valid.

But Google said the data is probably a collection of credentials from different sources, and that only 2% of the credentials were correct and an even smaller proportion could be used to access accounts.

“Our automated anti-hijacking systems would have blocked many of those login attempts,” the company’s spam and abuse team said.

The team added that the affected accounts were now protected as the account holders had been forced to change their passwords.

The cache of credentials is the third of its kind to appear on Russian internet forums in recent days, according to Ars Technica.

Files that allegedly contained the login credentials of 4.7 million Mail.ru and 1.3 million Yandex accounts were also leaked online.
